台灣高雄人，現任台北市東門基督長老教會牧師。他在1987 年9 月至1993 年擔任«台灣教會公報»總編輯，這是台灣長老教會最積極從事二二八平反 運動的時期。«台灣教會公報»用了許多的篇幅刊載關於二二八事件的反省、追思、報導、紀錄…等 文章。
1989 年於嘉義市舉行二二八紀念遊行，嘉義中會的牧師團走在第一線，
與警方對峙的氣氛。在現場情況加溫時，

When and what the judges will decide is not announced but we do have the following report that comes from the "Boston Progressive Examiner." Regardless of that decision, there will certainly be a lot of denials and agreements as different pundits weigh in. Commentary. Taiwan's Sovereignty and Statehood Still "Undecided" ? February 04, by Jerome F. Keating Ph.D.
On February 5th, the oral arguments of a provocative lawsuit will go before the US Court of Appeals at 9:30 am. In this presentation, Dr. Roger Lin is arguing that the sovereignty and role of Taiwan in the international community remains a piece of unfinished business left over from World War II (WWII). Lin is claiming that since the US conquered Japan and its territories, it bears responsibility for the disposition of those territories and in particular that of Taiwan. That disposition was not made, treated or designated in the San Francisco Peace Treaty of 1952. Taiwan was given neither to the Republic of China (ROC), nor the People's Republic of China (PRC). Commentary. Amnesty International Adds its Voice to Protests Against the Erosion of Justice under Ma Ying-jeou's KMT Government, Saturday December 06, by Jerome F. Keating Ph.D.
On December 7th, the Wild Strawberries will have a march to continue their protest against the harsh Parade and Assembly Laws that Taiwan has and which are a carry-over from the Martial Law days. The march will be peaceful; it will also be carried out without a permit required by the law. It constitutes a peaceful act of civil disobedience reminiscent of the thought and practices of Henry David Thoreau, Gandhi, and Martin Luther King. Almost as if in support, Amnesty International has added its voice to the continuously growing number of organizations that question the dedication to justice of the government of Ma Ying-jeou. You simply have to look at all the previous posts on this page and you will see some ten protests and organizations listed. (More)

Taiwan’s
democracy is a proud achievement. Among the more serious
challenges in
its continuing development are legitimate questions regarding due
process and appropriate judicial procedure. Joining us for a
discussion of these issues is someone who literally is a rocket
scientist, Ching Jyh Shieh. Dr. Shieh lived through a two-year
process
of detention, trial, and eventual acquittal on July 30 this year.
His
personal experience sheds light on the seriousness of the problem, its
context and what can be done to fix it.

The Wild Strawberry Student Movement held a mock “memorial service” yesterday for human rights at the National Taiwan Democracy Memorial Hall. Wearing white head coverings and face masks, a few dozen protesters gathered at Liberty Square, carrying placards that read “Freedom of speech” and “Free from violence” and offering their “condolences” to rights they said have been trampled by the government. JOINT STATEMENT of US, Canadian, European and Australian
scholars/writers started the ball rolling. It highlighted numerous
abuses of civil rights and liberties already clearly evident in the
first five months that Ma Ying-jeou had been in office. This statement
came out on November 4th, 2008, even before Chen Yunlin had completed
his visit and further police brutality and violation of civil liberties
would become evident. These scholars wrote to express concern about the
growing political prosecutions in Taiwan under Ma Ying-jeou. It reads

Statement by Taiwanese Human Rights Association of Canada, November 13, 2008, Condemns Ongoing Political Prosecutions in Taiwan; Calls on Human Rights groups to put the “Republic of China” on watch list
The Taiwanese Human Rights Association of Canada has watched with increasing concern over the past few months as the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) government on Taiwan has carried out a series of arrests, detentions without charge, impeachments, and “evidence gathering” raids against officials of the previous DPP administration, legislators, local government officials and diplomats. These are ostensibly all part of an anti-corruption campaign to uncover evidence for prosecution of President Chen Shui-bian and his family for financial misdeeds. But they have been accompanied, perhaps driven, by a vicious hate campaign against “the monster Chen Shui-bian” (United Daily News October 30) in the KMT media, and frequent “revelations” of confidential prosecutorial information by KMT legislators. Looking at this complex series of events, we are led to conclude that the KMT is abusing the justice system, Control Yuan, and media in Taiwan, using them as tools of character assassination and a political settling of accounts with the opposition. 呈現在我眼前，台籍老兵許昭榮自焚死諫。他在自己一直奮鬥將近二十年才爭取到的「台灣無名戰士紀念碑」前淋上汽油，點燃自己，以最悲壯的豪氣來抗議政府對

給誰。 就像一般的台灣母親一樣，我從不讓孩子碰觸政治議題，也要求我的孩
子在學校絕口不提政治。一方面，我希望他們專心學習，不要被社會氛圍分了心、迷了眼；另一方面，也因為在我從小的成長過程中，我被告知，政治是一個危險的
話題，一個可能要命的話題——至少在我從小到大所見所聞，噤口不言是一個明哲保命的選擇。
不過，現在的孩子很聰明，他們在學校，也透過各種方
式學習民主，作父母的是無可迴避的。所以，當女兒回到家問我「總統要選誰」的時候，我實在很難迴避這個問題。 (More)

States, the clearest way of expressing that support is to give full
diplomatic recognition to the state that already exists and that the
Taiwanese overwhelmingly wish to preserve. Maintaining ambiguous,
informal ties to Taiwan is confusing and potentially dangerous; it
obscures Beijing's understanding of just how committed the United

about two thousand people gathered in front of the Bureau of Monoply in
Taipei to protest the brutal beating on a woman cigarette peddler and
the killing of a bystander by the police on the previous evening. The
Chinese Governor, Chen Yi responded with machine guns, killing several
people on the spot. Uprisings errupted. What ensued were a series of
massacres on the island by the troops sent from China by Chiang
Kai-Shek resulting in the deaths of more than 30,000 Taiwanese people,
followed by an era of white terror (arrests and mysterious disapprances
of countless additional people) by the military police for decades.... (More)

Opposition Claims Victory in Taiwan Presidential Election, By VOA News , 22 March 2008
The opposition candidate in Taiwan has easily won the island's presidential election while voters overwhelmingly rejected two referendums on Taiwan joining the United Nations. Opposition candidate Ma Ying-jeou of the Nationalist Party won the presidential race with 58 percent of the vote, compared to 42 percent for Frank Hsieh, of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party.
